All Da Breakz/Soundboy Step Up (Rocstar)

The dastardly Exeter breaks twosome really deserve some breaks themselves, as they've been beavering away at the coalface for ages, and 'All Da Breakz' owes a large debt to the mischief and mayhem of bass music. Neo junglist steppa beats begin a marauding romp that takes in a dirty burrowing bassline, jump up bashment vibes, hardcore hip-hop MCing, Casio bleeps, Grandmaster Flash samples, high-pitched dog whistles, and maybe even the kitchen sink. It's a boss tune, and on 'Soundboy Step Up' they turn in an equally well-worked dubstep piece.

4.5/5

Jinx In Dub

Tippa Tap (Functional)

Bristol fiend Jinx indulges his love of dub on this side-project, and the conquering lion kicks 'Tippa Tap' off with a straight-up skank and a Haile Selassie sample as it drops into reggae. It develops a breakbeat shuffle in the second part, and label chief Biff's Exeter cronies Ben & Lex turn it into a wicked dubsteppy piece, complete with old skool breakbeats and Detroit chords. Great smokin' material.

Exclusive to Beatport

Press Release

Dub Pistols 'Ganja'

From an album that boasts stylings of soul, funk, hip-hop and pop among others, the Dub Pistols once again deliver a fine example of their extensive musical influences with their 3rd single ‘Ganja’.

Taken from their 4th album ‘Rum & Coke’, the single is helmed by UK hip-hop legend Rodney P, who works his lyrics into an original blend of dub, hip-hop and reggae with a feel-good, laid-back groove. Ganja? They’ve never touched the stuff!

With the legendary status that Barry, Jason and the boys have built up over the years, remixer’s were lining up to take this one for a spin, and we’re not disappointed. New producer on the scene Toby Toast proves his worth with a beautifully down-tempo electronic re-working, while Hip-hop legend Skitz hardens things up with added vocals from Deadly Hunter. Atomic Hooligan, 2 Bit Thugs and Ben and Lex represent the breaks contingent, delivering some equally leg-wobbling bass lines and beats. As always, the Sunday Best Remix proves a firm DJ favourite with a fresh cosmic disco edge.

With a frenetic winter tour of Australia, Asia and Europe under their belts, the band embark on their ‘Ganja Tour’ of the UK in March, culminating in a headline show at London’s KoKo. The summer of 2010 is already looking busy with a host of festival dates confirmed and many more to come.

Release: 14th March 2010 - Link coming soon :)

Press Release

Kiss My Bass returns with an action packed bass heavy package headed up with the latest from breaks/house crossover boys JOKR. Their most recent track On Point was well received on Dusted Breaks and since their sound matches our vibe perfectly we were quick to snap them up! The resulting EP is one of non stop dance floor belters, each with their own slightly different take. Suffice to say there will be one for your occasion.

As ever your feedback is really appreciated so please take the time to hit the reply button and let us know what you think and which mixes you intend to inflict upon the world.

The original mix hits the nail on the head in terms of the kind of variety Kiss My Bass is all about. Fresh off the back of our electro house led debut and the massively played electro dubstep follow up Wub Steppin we thought we'd slap a bit of breaks flavoured house your way.

The first remix comes from the hardest working men in the South (UK of course!) messrs Ben and Lex. We're very happy to have the boys on board and they don't disappoint with a big grimey breaksy bassline wobbler (deep breath).

As Udy's remix of the last JOKR track was so well received it only seemed right to get him in on the action. A typically schizophrenic remix keeps the dance floor interested and shows why he is currying favour with a lot of rave DJs at the moment.

Brooklyn's Mr Vega is no stranger to the label, with his previous tracks for KMB blowing up BIG. Always a pleasure to have him involved and and massive electro house style lead infused with the spirit of wobble.

The final mix will be the first we send out to the blogs and have for free download just to kick off the hype. Again it's some label favourites that take the honour with Knob Jockeys heading up the task force. Their remix of our last EP saw us get 1Xtra play due to them being featured on Rusko's show and once again they show why they're a massive upcoming talent. Impossible to pin down, it's probably best you just listen to it!

SCRATCH PERVERTS

Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and Plus One are the Scratch Perverts - a name that has become synonymous with HipHop and battle DJing ever since their formation in 1996. Their reputation as one of the world's most progressive DJ collectives is unparalleled; two consecutive World DMC Team titles, Plus One's World DMC Champion and World Vestax Champion titles, Prime Cut's back to back World ITF Scratching crowns, and countless showcases and gigs all over the world.

Although they may have retired from battling indefinitely, the Perverts have lost none of their supercharged competitive spirit.
The creative energy and enthusiasm that the Perverts exude is quite something, through all their schizophrenic influences and lofty ideals you get the feeling that they will harness and channel their combined creativity into something very special.

JACK BEATS

A multiple DMC Award winning DJ duo made up of DJ Plus One of Scratch Perverts and Ben Geffin from The Mixologists. They have had an immediate and profound effect on the club scene since teaming up in 2007; producing transcendent remixes for La Roux and Florence & The Machine amongst others and releasing their genre bending ‘U.F.O’ EP on Hervé’s Cheap Thrills Records.

Citing influences as diverse as Timbaland, Rage Against the Machine, A Guy Called Gerald and Sebastian, the two began to hone a style fusing House, Hip Hop, Drum & Bass and Dubstep with Electro and Baltimore Club, and what emerged was a cutting edge sound. The duo demanded immediate attention after their gob-smacking take on Boy 8-Bit’s anthem ‘Fogbank’ dropped in early 2008 followed by refixes of Trip’s guitar-driven ‘Who’s That?’ and the now classic AC Slater remix.

Support from major industry players Zane Lowe, Annie Mac (who has played almost everything they have produced|) and the Crookers plus the whole of blog-land have taken them to the next level in 09. They are currently finishing off their last remix of the year to start work on their debut album which will be released May 2010 and the duo aim to be headlining festivals soon after.

Having had numerous top 10 hits, over the last 15 years, Utahs are still at the top of their game, as DJs and producers. Currently signed to Ministry of Sound / Data and remixing for the likes of the Twang, Utahs continue to be an essential name is dance music.

RESO

Reso is a rising star, gaining worldwide notoriety for his technoid inspired productions which often transcend the dubstep tag that many have easily slotted him into. Reso’s aural identity is a densely layered, high octane tapestry, rich with musical texture and colour, which sets him apart from the minimal sparseness of many of his fellow producers. With a busy DJ schedule, Reso has been smashing dancefloors from Newcastle to Nottingham and London, whilst regularly hitting Europe. With releases due on Storming Productions, Destructive, Urban Graffiti and Skud, Reso is definitely one to catch before he blows up!

Dub Pistols 'Ganja / Ben and Lex's High & Dry Remix' OUT NOW

Dub Pistols 'Ganja (Ben & Lex’s High and Dry Remix)' [Sunday Best]

Buy Me
