Beatz & Bobz are very glad to welcome back the mighty Aquasky to our little rave hole of a home The Cavern.

The Passenger Records head honcho's will be rocking out the beats in a Jackin 4/4, Breakbeats, Bassline Niche, Drum and Bass, Hip Hop and a rub of Dubstep way showing us why they and their label are pushing the Uk Bass sound all over the place.

Support as ever comes from Westcountry Warriors Ben & Lex + the lovely DJ Andromeda.

Phonic.FM Interviews

Now were back on they have created a couple of pages about us and the show :)

Presenter - Ben and Lex

Name: Ben and Lex

Show: The Ben and Lex Show

When are you on? Every other Thursday 8-10pm

What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
A bit of Everything really…. Imagine if you will a journey from Breakbeat to Balearic being beaten up by Dubstep and Drum’n'Bass along the way and having to recover slowly with a cup of tea made by Mr Scruff whilst listening to Schneider TM cover the Smiths, then deciding to go out again that night even though you hurt, to go and see Jack Beats fight with the Wu Tang…..well…….something like that anyway .

How did you get into this type of music?
By working in a record shop and generally acquiring many thousands of pounds of debts buying every record we could get our hands on ( Benny once spent 150 quid in one shop in one hit on records by Jeff Mills- whilst hungover admittedly..) and going to every gig eveerywhere put on by anyone in the last 10 years

How long have you been DJing?
Together about 11 years…separately even longer……Dear God I feel old…….

How did you start DJing?
Well…..keeps us off the streets innit…….

Can we find you DJing anywhere other than on Phonic FM?
You can find us as resident Djs at any ‘Beatz & Bobz‘ or ‘Joint‘ night in and around Exeter, or headlining at many many clubs around the UK from London to Leeds and festivals from Glastonbury to the Glade.

What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
Lex : I once fell off the back of a 25ft stage whilst djing to 10,000 Spanish ravers at the Breaks Nation Festival in Seville and got lost in the dark underneath for 10 minutes whimpering for my mummy..…and a torch….

What has been your best DJing moment?
Probably our 1st set at Glastonbury in 2001 where we played the ’secret’ Thursday night stage to well…basically the whole festival coz it’s the only music on that night ….Any Djs dream fulfilled right there me thinks.

Who is your favourite artist?
Where to start………….Benny says his is Autechre…….I couldn’t possibly fit them all in.

It all depends on the mood of the moment…….Do you ‘wanna lay down by the fire’ or get you raving boots on?

What is your all time favourite album? Why?
Its just not possible to answer either question without being in a pub with 2 or 3 mates, 7 pints in going.. ” No!…No!…..NO!…its ‘Songs in the Key of Life‘……”Nah mate its gotta be ‘The Brown Album‘…….Don’t be a @£*& it’s The Clash-’The Clash‘

so there……

Where do you shop for music in Exeter?

Why? They sell vinyl. Full stop.

Radio Show - The Ben and Lex Show

Show name: The Ben and Lex Show

Presenter/s names: Err…..Ben & Lex……

Show time and day: Every other Thursday 8-10pm

Describe your show in one short sentence:
The Saviours of Phonic FM.

What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
Tunes to get your Rave on to and keep you on the mellow all at the same time.

Why do you like this music?
Couldn’t possibly tell you ….we’d get nicked.

What is the format of your show?
Playing tunes and forgetting to tell you what they were because we are too busy chatting total nonsense.

Why should we listen to your show?
Because I know where you live………

How did your show come about?
By getting involved in the very first Vibraphonic festival & radio station and some muppet thinking it was a good idea to put us on the airwaves ….and of course being internationally award nominated globe trekking breakbeat duo Ben & Lex.

What goes on behind the scenes in the studio?
If I’m honest ……Swearing…Lots of swearing… we don’t do it on air….it’s like hanging out with a couple of drunk navvies off air I tell ya….

What has been you best on air moment?
Generally everything haha……We really are rather good you know and we just enjoy every show as if it was the last……because knowing us two it very well may be :)

What has been your worst/ most embarrassing on air moment?
Leaving the mic up and arguing like a married couple about what to play next…Or alternatively when randoms wander into the studio and just stand there haha… Err……Hello?…….Must get some security I think…

Mongolian Mixtape Marathon

For those of you that haven’t heard yet, Noise Porn has come up with a wonderful initiative, they will be away this summer driving from London to Mongolia in aid of Save The Children. To help them get there, they’re asking for DJs from all around the world to submit mixes, so they can listen to them non-stop all the way there. That’s over 800 hours of non-stop electronic music. To make a mix (and change a life), head over to right now! The website launched last night and the mixes are already flooding in. Please be as generous as you can!

DJs who have pledged their support include Krafty Kuts, Ben & Lex, NAPT and Brodinski. The Fat! Club, Fabric and Always Fridays @ The Egg are also getting involved, with providing some promotional muscle. Also thanks to Nathan Taylor (our PR guru), Felipe and Ricardo at Solution Nine for building the site, and Subdrive Media for hosting the podcasts.

Now go be generous! Going to get my mix in within the next few days.

Thanks to Noise Porn for this post and this wonderful initiative!

Finally Back on

So after a 2 year hiatus from we are back. On tonights show, as its all a bit last minute, I think were just going to drop large amounts of bumping wonky party tunes plus were going to have to get used to the new studio and equipment... should be interesting. So expect lots of us going 'hmm' and pressing the wrong buttons while generally talking a load of gibbering rubbish. Same old then really :)

Sneak peak at the interview which will be up on their website soon...

Supported Freeland on Tuesday for the first date on his uk tour and I must say it was pretty damn sweet. Mainly new tunes I think, they did play We Want Your Soul though which went down well. So if you can get a chance to see them on the tour then I'd jump at the chance :)

The Wrongstars on The Beatz and Bobz Show

This Monday on The Beatz and Bobz show we have a super hot guest mix from The Wrongstars.

If you like generic boring dance music that is swamping the whole industry then stop reading. The Wrongstar Society consists of of Paul Era, MC Mooretime, Dirty D, Bass Invada and MC Esq. We met in 2006 and in the following months started making tunes that sum up what we are all about. Hooligan Vocals backed with heavy beats and dirty basslines.. as NME stated we are trouble with a capital T.

Their mix features a whole host of remixes, tracks and exclusives from them and its mighty tasty to boot.

So tune in from 9-11pm on NSB Radio this Monday for this and a whole host more.
