Mix Of The Week - James Fox

An occasional thing I do on SWU is post up a mix that has been my 'driving to work' music for the week. In the past I've posted up mixes by Remarc, OG, Jeff Mills and I thought I'd start posting them up on the blog as well.

So here is the first of a weekly item I'll be doing.. Mix Of The Week.

This week I've been listening to this sublime deep house mix from MMII artist James Fox.

James Fox

Full of northern promise, this Mancunian is currently on a cultural exchange in London. Previously known as Strategy, he’s trod a steady path through years of graft on the dj circuit that’s led him to a definite personal style. Having enjoyed his dj sets and radio shows it’s a joy to be able to show him off a bit on the label. We're not the only ones to have noticed either, with releases on Myuzyk out now and Take Records soon.

Child is a mainstay in the Australian scene, and is quickly gaining recognition overseas. His sound, which is a fusion of deep house, detroit, techno and just a touch of psychedelia, has already been endorsed by the likes of Justin Martin, Extrawelt, Carl Cox and more. He has just released an EP 'Japan' on Tribal Vision which you can buy from beatport

SHOWCASE
Metroboy aka Ben Ervine is a producer/DJ from the southwest of England, and forms one half of award-winning breakbeat duo Ben and Lex. Metroboy’s music is a crunchy, hard-bleep style of minimal and tech house, with unflinching grooves and uplifting tones sure to lock in any dancefloor. His remix of Benjamin Vial’s “The Bass and the Monkey” was released on Plasma.Digital in Feb 2009. Further remixes for Ape and VIM records are in the pipeline.

Since Sept 2007 MetroBoy has hosted a bi-monthly tech house, minimal and techno show on Brap.FM featuring the latest sounds from Minus, Get Physical and Berlin as well as many other quality modern tech producers. A full archive of the show in podcast format is available on the MetroBoy blog – Well worth exploring for some awesome mixage from tech jazz and deep house to crunchy techno.

This Saturday i'll be heading up to Reading to play at the This Is Techno 'Launch Party'. If memory serves I'm on 1 till 2.30 :D bleepy rave

'This is Techno...' is a new club night opening in Reading starting 5th September '09.

Our aim is to bring you the finest underground Techno DJ's and Live acts from around the world, as well as some of the best up and coming DJ's from in and around Reading and the south of England.

The Launch party is to be held at Plug 'n' Play Studios in Reading, with a capacity of 200 and it's typical european Techno Club atmosphere there really couldn't be a more perfect venue.

For the launch party we've secured a mouth watering lineup, headlining the event will be London based DJ/Producer PERC and top Swedish DJ/Producer Mikael Jonasson who will be flying in from Stockholm to play LIVE!

We bring you the second Dusted Breaks installment from the Southampton duo MOBIUS, and this time the dark and twisted nature of the original has a gut bustin bass line, that has smashed the dancefloors across the world since it's promo release a few weeks ago!

Not content with just an amazing original track though, We bring you what the critics say is these guys finest work to date and after first hearing The BEN & LEX remix, Who am i to disagree!

It takes heavy dub influences, but keeps it very much Breaks, and is packed full of wobbly goodness!! This tune has also smashed many a dancefloor to pieces in it's short, but very sweet promo existence! This was the highlight of Ben & Lex's Glade set and was added to Jay Cunnings "Promo's of the week" after being played on his show. It has also had club plays from the likes of Mr No Hands, Duane Barry & Mr Cunning himself, to name but a few!
